Meanwhile, Marco Island Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 75-43 loss at the hands of Moore Haven. Marco Island Academy has not had much luck with Moore Haven recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Marco Island Academy got a solid performance out of Mathis Fontes, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Fontes scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Veleon Nazarko, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Everglades City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Marco Island Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Everglades City didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Marco Island Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 77-73 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Everglades City since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
