It was a good run, but the Wayne County Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 70-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cincinnati Country Day. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wayne County came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 104th in Tennessee, while Cincinnati Country Day is ranked 232nd in Ohio).
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Justice Bell, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. Bell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Shamer, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Wayne County's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Cincinnati Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Wayne County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cornerstone Christian at 8:30 a.m. on December 29th. Cornerstone Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58 points per game. As for Cincinnati Country Day, they will head out on the road to face off against Cincinnati Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
