Softball Game Preview: New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers vs. Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly and Greenfield/Northwestern are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Vipers will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Maroa-Forsyth hit New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vipers came up short against the Trojans, falling 14-5.

Lincolnwood hit Greenfield/Northwestern with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 9-8. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Jaylynn Pitchford was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Annabeth Thornton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jillian McAdams, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
