The Edmund Burke Academy Spartans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They secured a 20-14 W over Gatewood. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Edmund Burke Academy was the (much) better team in the second half.
Edmund Burke Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grant Mobley led the charge by rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Ayden Phillips and his 100 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Edmund Burke Academy's win.
Edmund Burke Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Thomas Jefferson Academy and 2-6 Piedmont Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Gatewood, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.
Edmund Burke Academy will take on Augusta Prep Day at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Augusta Prep Day is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Gatewood, they will head out on the road to face off against Piedmont Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
