Carson has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Birmingham Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Carson rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past Granada Hills Charter 34-12.
Jerry Misaalefua continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 241 yards while picking up 11.0 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Birmingham came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 57-19 victory over Narbonne at home. Given Birmingham's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Narbonne is ranked 452nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Birmingham's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ronnell Hewitt led the charge by rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Kingston Tisdell was another key contributor, throwing for 132 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.
Birmingham's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Bo Tonga and Maynor Morales who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
Carson's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for Birmingham, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Carson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 238.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Birmingham struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
