The Niskayuna Silver Warriors will head out to square off against the Columbia Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Niskayuna 1.8, Columbia 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Niskayuna blew Glens Falls out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Glens Falls got their revenge. The Silver Warriors fell just short of the Indians by a score of 6-4. It was the first time this season that the Silver Warriors let down their fans at home.
Niskayuna saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Neugebuaer, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that Neugebuaer has scored this season.
Meanwhile, Columbia beat Colonie Central 6-2 on Friday. The Blue Devils have beaten the Wolfpack the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolfpack has come to flipping the script.
Sophia Galligan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Galligan was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stella Guzek, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Jill Sousa was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Niskayuna's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Columbia, their record is now 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Niskayuna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Niskayuna came up short against Columbia in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, falling 4-1. Can the Silver Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
