The Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes and the West Broward Bobcats will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Wednesday, Pompano Beach had to suffer through a rough 71-30 loss at the hands of Everglades. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pompano Beach has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Pompano Beach had strong showings from Jonathan Berwig, who scored nine points along with five assists, and Mason Rowan, who scored 11 points. Berwig scored a full 30% of Pompano Beach's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kerrick Wiggins was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, West Broward's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Western 75-42. While losing is never fun, West Broward can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Western is ranked 110th).
Pompano Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for West Broward, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Pompano Beach beat West Broward 61-54 when the teams last played back in January of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pompano Beach since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
