Basketball Recap: Case Roberts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Whitewater over Spalding

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitewater faced off against Spalding on Friday. The Whitewater Wildcats fell to the Spalding Jaguars 58-53. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Case Roberts, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Roberts is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trey Robbins, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Whitewater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Spalding's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keelan Day, who put up 21 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Day continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarcus Jordan, who had six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Whitewater has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Spalding, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-9.

Whitewater didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-47 loss against LaGrange on the 4th. As for Spalding, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-51 defeat against Upson-Lee on the 7th.
