The Martin County Gators will challenge the Northeastern Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Martin County's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Currituck County.
The result came thanks to Easton Warren's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Martin County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamarion Larry, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Martin County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Currituck County struck out 14 times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeastern). They blew past Hertford County 11-1 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won seven in a row.
Owen Collins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Northeastern let Michael Everett and Ian James run wild. Everett got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while James went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles James has posted since back in March of 2025. Miles Everett was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Martin County's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Northeastern, the win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Martin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Martin County was able to grind out a solid victory over Northeastern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Do the Gators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
