Highlands Ranch is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Heritage a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Highlands Ranch Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Heritage Eagles at 4:15 p.m.
Highlands Ranch managed to slip by Chaparral the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Falcons came up short against the Wolverines on Monday, falling 18-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ayden Wells and Garrett Williams stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wells went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that Williams has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Cody Dane, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage). They put the hurt on Legend with a sharp 16-3 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
James Kellogg made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Heritage got a massive performance out of Elliott Milstead, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Milstead has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Eells, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.
Heritage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Highlands Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Heritage, their win bumped their record up to 6-13.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Highlands Ranch has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Highlands Ranch's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Highlands Ranch suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Heritage when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
