The Trinity Trojans will face off against the Independence Blue Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Trinity has given up an average of 29.7 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Trinity's last matchup with Cuyahoga Heights could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Friday. The Trojans took a blow against the Red Wolves, falling 41-14. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Red Wolves: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 37-0 win over Beachwood. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won three in a row.
Trinity better keep an eye on Sam Bernhardt. He was instrumental in Independence's win, rushing for 76 yards and one TD on only seven carries, while also throwing for 77 yards and one touchdown.
Independence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 67.7 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five contests they've averaged 226.3.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Independence, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Bernhardt, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Independence picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-7. As for Trinity, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Everything went Trinity's way against Independence in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Trinity made off with a 49-27 victory. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
