The Waccamaw Warriors had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 75-58 win over Johnsonville on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Waccamaw's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrese Haynes, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. Haynes continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sutton Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Waccamaw's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Johnsonville, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waccamaw will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Carolina Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Johnsonville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lee Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
