Basketball Recap: Elyjah Jones Key Part of a Team Effort in Rattlers Win

Tanner proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 28) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the West Limestone Wildcats 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rattlers have posted since February 6, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tanner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elyjah Jones, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Fletcher, who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Tanner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Tanner is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for West Limestone, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.

Tanner has already played their next contest, an 81-45 loss against East Limestone on the 25th. As for West Limestone, they will face off against St. John Paul II at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. West Limestone is facing St. John Paul II at the right time seeing as St. John Paul II is stuck on a 22-game losing streak.
