The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will take on the Cedar Valley Aviators at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Maple Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Maple Mountain's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Spanish Fork by a score of 4-0. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Dons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Jeremiah Hall's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maple Mountain's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mick Winward, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cedar Valley made easy work of Timpview on Thursday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aviators.
Cedar Valley also got a great performance from Graidy Webster as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Ayden Laws was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Ashton Pincock was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Cedar Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Cedar Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maple Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cedar Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Maple Mountain beat Cedar Valley 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Aviators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
