Lakeside is a perfect 9-0 against Minden since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crimson Tide at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lakeside's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Mansfield 18-0. Considering the Warriors have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Raleah Harris and McKenna Chreene did most of the damage at the plate: Harris scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Chreene scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Chreene a new career-high. Paiton Levesque was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Lakeside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Minden won against Monterey on Saturday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Crimson Tide beat Summerfield by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-4. The Crimson Tide haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Lindsay Ryan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leigha Kennon Gilbert, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lizzie Balkom, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Lakeside and bumps their season record up to 21-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Minden, their win bumped their record up to 10-15-1.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lakeside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Minden struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakeside was able to grind out a solid victory over Minden when the teams last played back in February, winning 5-2. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Crimson Tide have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
