Saint Francis Catholic will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Dixie County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wolves put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 7-1 win on Friday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
Saint Francis Catholic let Chris Durstine and Colin Kuruppacherry run wild. Durstine scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Kuruppacherry scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Kuruppacherry posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Muir, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Peniel Baptist Academy came into Monday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over Non Varsity Opponent on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their two-run performance the game before.
Layne Bagnall made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Bagnall was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Peniel Baptist Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-11 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Jeremy Rae was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Preston Fields was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
