John Champe is 0-8 against Woodgrove since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Knights will take on the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
John Champe is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Dominion. Even if the Knights couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Victoria Katilius was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Schwarz, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Woodgrove waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pride an 18-0 shutout. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Virginia Dowell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addie McCullers was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbey Davis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Woodgrove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only posted an OBP of .222.
John Champe's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Woodgrove, their record now sits at 11-3.
John Champe might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Woodgrove when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
