Westwood hasn't had much luck against Airport recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Redhawks will face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Westwood after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 4-1 to Sumter.
Westwood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Jeffcoat, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Airport, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over Brookland-Cayce on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Brice Gillette made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Cash Epps looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Brayden Dunlap was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Landon Jeffcoat also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Airport pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Westwood, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Westwood might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Airport in their previous matchup on April 4th. Can the Redhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
