Sophia Escobar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cecilia Spencer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolie Barth, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Shorecrest Prep came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 13-6 victory.
Paige Conroy was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madi Bidwell, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Shorecrest Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Neumann's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Shorecrest Prep, their record now sits at 15-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Neumann has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shorecrest Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
