The Holmes County Central Jaguars put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Cleveland Central 29-28. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Holmes County Central also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2020.
It was another big night for Garrison Davis, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Antravian Pernell, who picked up 145 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Holmes County Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Cleveland Central's QB won't forget Terrance Hibbler Jr. anytime soon given Hibbler Jr. sacked him six times.
Holmes County Central's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.2 points per game. As for Cleveland Central, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holmes County Central will take on Canton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cleveland Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Yazoo City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yazoo City comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
