Groesbeck is 0-3 against La Vega since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Both teams will round out the year against one another at 9:30 a.m. at. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Groesbeck has struggled recently with 11 defeats in a row, while La Vega will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Wednesday, Groesbeck suffered a rough 45-23 loss at the hands of Centerville. While losing is never fun, Groesbeck can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1479th, while Centerville is ranked 508th).
La Vega has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Hillsboro 71-43 on the road.
La Vega can attribute much of their success to Monta Hilliard, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists, and Eythan Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Hilliard's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Torey Degrate Jr., who scored 14 points.
Groesbeck's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for La Vega, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Groesbeck and La Vega were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but Groesbeck came up empty-handed after a 49-48 defeat. Can Groesbeck avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
