Elba is 2-8 against the Wildcats since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Elba Tigers will stay at home for another game and welcome the Florala Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Elba will be strutting in after a victory while the Wildcats will be coming in after a loss.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Elba ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They managed a 79-73 victory over Zion Chapel. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Florala's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They fell just short of Andalusia by a score of 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Florala has suffered since November 17, 2023.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Rayshon Coleman, who scored 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Christian Greasham was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Elba pushed their record up to 16-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Florala, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season.
Elba strolled past the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 69-52. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Coleman, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Elba still be able to contain Coleman? There's only one way to find out.
