The Atlantic Sharks suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Mainland at home and fell 62-25. While losing is never fun, Atlantic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while Mainland is ranked 35th).
Atlantic's loss came despite strong showings from Terriana Ammons and Saniya Whitfield. Ammons scored six points along with four steals, while Whitfield scored five points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mainland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anovia Sheals, who scored 18 points. Sheals has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Olivia Olson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Atlantic's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Mainland, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-11.
Atlantic will challenge Pine Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mainland, they will face off against Deltona at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Calise Chisholm and Sheals.
