Clay City is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Dugger Union with a sharp 19-2 win. Considering the Eels have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Charli Walters and Bri Rexrode made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Walters tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Rexrode pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Walters went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI, while Rexrode went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Clay City let Faith Mitchell and Karlee Smith run wild. Mitchell fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4, while Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Mitchell a new career-high. Addalee Thompson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Clay City lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Wolverines as they made off with a 12-2 victory.
The team relied heavily on Addison Lafree, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Gwenavere Klun, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Clay City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bloomfield, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clay City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Bloomfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clay City took their win against Bloomfield when the teams last played last Monday by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
