The Armstrong River Hawks lost against the Penn Hills Indians back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Armstrong took a hard 66-47 fall against Penn Hills. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Armstrong in their matchups with Penn Hills: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Armstrong lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jack Valasek. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. The contest was Valasek's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Riggle, who scored ten points.
Armstrong's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Penn Hills, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armstrong will square off against Fox Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Fox Chapel is ranked 151st, while Armstrong is ranked 160th). Penn Hills won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on January 6th. North Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 652 points over their last nine matchups.
