It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Athens Warriors can now relate to. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 28-3 walloping at the hands of the Wildcats on Friday. Athens' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Among those leading the charge was Kyle Farrell, who rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Farrell really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.
Athens' loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Wilmington, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Athens does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wilmington will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Manteno at 7:00 p.m. on September 13, 2024. Manteno will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Wilmington is ranked 26th).
