The Atascocita Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Tomball Memorial Wildcats at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Atascocita is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Atascocita took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Langham Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Atascocita narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Langham Creek 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Allison Burkhalter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Burkhalter was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Burkhalter wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marigny Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tomball Memorial beat New Caney 7-3 on Friday.
Lauren Coombs looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Lacey Matheson and Taylor Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Matheson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Johnson scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, Johnson posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynslie Cathey, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Tomball Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Caney only posted a batting average of .160.
Atascocita pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Tomball Memorial, their record now sits at 8-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Atascocita hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Tomball Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
