The Chiefland Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 61-23 defeat at the hands of Hawthorne. Chiefland has struggled against Hawthorne recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Chiefland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brianna Bell, who scored five points along with four steals. Bell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Nyasia Bivins was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Hawthorne was led to victory by De' Mya Adams and Jhalea Jackson. Adams scored 15 points along with five steals, while Jackson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jackson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ranicia Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Chiefland dropped their record down to 6-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.0 points per game. As for Hawthorne, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chiefland will take on Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trenton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.8 points per game. Hawthorne won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Keystone Heights at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Keystone Heights has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
