West Yosemite recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when JC Robles and Joey Chica connected against Monache. The connection went for 72 yards, the longest such play in West Yosemite this season.
Redwood moved up to 380 from 502 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rangers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Tulare Union 28-21.
Rickie Garcia was the best receiver in the league this week as Redwood topped the Redskins. Garcia racked up 5 receptions for 98 yards. Jordan Arnold helped Redwood's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 62 yards.
Jake Young threw for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 20-32 with 0 interceptions.
Young put up the best numbers in passing as Hanford lost to Dinuba. Young's favorite target this week was Dustin Vasquez, who caught 4 passes for 69 yards.
Alfred Suniga made the biggest impact on defense this week as El Diamante defeated the Marauders. The 5-foot-10 defensive back.
JaVaughn Malcolm was the most successful running back in West Yosemite this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 124 yards as Mt. Whitney defeated Tulare Union. Teammate Abel Tavarez added to the ground attack by rushing for 16 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Young of the Bullpups is the league leader in passing yards this season with 637. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Chica. The El Diamante star has 10 catches for 233 yards.
The Miners took down Monache 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Robles threw for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.
