Columbia has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Richland Northeast Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Columbia took a serious blow against Lee Central, falling 72-9. While losing is never fun, Columbia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Lee Central is ranked 42nd).
Meanwhile, Richland Northeast was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 51-45 to Lakewood. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Richland Northeast in their matchups with Lakewood: they've now lost six in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Zimarika Moorer, who scored 5 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Moorer is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lujain Jallab, who scored 17 points.
Columbia bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.5 points per game. As for Richland Northeast, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Columbia was taken down by Richland Northeast 57-12 in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can Columbia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
