Basketball Recap: Gregory-Portland Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Gregory-Portland extended their home winning streak to eight games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Jariyah Whitehead. The Gregory-Portland Wildcats took down the Miller Buccaneers 59-44 on Friday thanks in part to Whitehead, who went 6 for 7 on her way to 18 points. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Brittney Chapman was another key player, going 5 for 6 on her way to 10 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Miller still got an impressive performance from Hailey Martinez, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That was a full 50% of Miller's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julissa Ramirez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Gregory-Portland's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Miller, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Gregory-Portland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-27 win against Ray on the 17th. As for Miller, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-40 victory against King on the 17th.
