John F. Kennedy is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They fell 34-23 to Ingram Moore. The matchup marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the loss, John F. Kennedy had strong showings from Makayla Aragon, who posted ten points, and Nyleah Lopez, who put up seven points. That was a full 43.5% of John F. Kennedy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Cuero came tearing into two weeks ago's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Texans 49-32.
Cuero had a senior duo take command as Aubrey Bowles dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards and Arissa Carbonara dropped a double-double on 11 rebounds and ten blocks. What's more, Carbonara also racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Mauryana Dasilva, who posted six points in addition to seven assists and four steals.
Cuero was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They are 4-1 when they've passed the ball that well.
Cuero has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points per game. As for John F. Kennedy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-17.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: John F. Kennedy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32 boards per game. However, it's not like Cuero struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
