Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Sunnyside was the 62-54 winner over Roosevelt when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sunnyside Wildcats fell just short of the Roosevelt Rough Riders by a score of 67-65 on Friday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sunnyside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CJ Jones, who posted 27 points. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Barnes, who had 18 points.

Roosevelt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cobi Posas led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. Posas' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Darreon Wheaton, who put up 13 points and three blocks.

Sunnyside's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7. As for Roosevelt, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Sunnyside will challenge Fresno at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunnyside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season. As for Roosevelt, they will face off against Bullard at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Roosevelt's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches.
