The Copper Canyon Aztecs will square off against the Washington Rams at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Copper Canyon's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Washington has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Copper Canyon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Sierra Linda on Thursday as they made off with a 20-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Aztecs, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Max Torres Felix made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Torres Felix was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Copper Canyon got a massive performance out of Anthony Acosta Livas, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Acosta Livas has become a key player for the Aztecs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Dariany Flores was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Copper Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Washington lost 15-9 to Independence on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by exactly six runs.
Liam Bunstein was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Troy Kenyon, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Copper Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Washington, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Copper Canyon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Copper Canyon's way against Washington in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Copper Canyon made off with a 10-1 win. Will the Aztecs repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
