The Berwick Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Wyoming Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Berwick has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Wyoming Area will come in with four straight wins.
Pittston hit Berwick with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs lost 9-2 to the Patriots.
Berwick saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Sult, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Wyoming Area made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hanover Area on Wednesday. The Warriors blew past the Hawkeyes 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Cody Meade was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wyoming Area is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Meade was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alex Vacula was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jake Snyder, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wyoming Area hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Wyoming Area pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Berwick, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
Berwick couldn't quite get it done against Wyoming Area when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
