3A Conference 11 recap November 19, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 11 this week, Southern beat Chapel Hill 40-6. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Northwood fell to Eastern Alamance 56-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Shawn Stankavage threw for 295 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 27-44 with 0 interceptions.
Stankavage put up the best numbers in passing as Cardinal Gibbons topped Triton. Stankavage's favorite target this week was Dante DiMaggio, who caught 9 passes for 123 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Stankavage of the Crusaders is the league leader in passing yards this season with 3,302. He has also thrown 33 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jalen Smith. The Northwood star has 80 catches for 1,231 yards.
Cardinal Gibbons' Stankavage needs only 13 yards against Southern next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 144 carries Stankavage has accumulated 987 yard this year.
Steven Wright's team's Earl Gill needs only 71 receiving yards against Adrian Jones' team to crack 1,000 for the season. So far this year, he has acheived 65 catches for 929 yards.
The Spartans are currently in second, while the Crusaders are in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Southern and Cardinal Gibbons face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Spartans comes in having scored 602 this season, while the Crusaders have scored 471. Southern scored 40 points last week as it beat the Tigers.
Cardinal Gibbons led the league in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on the Hawks. Stankavage ran for 117 yards during the win.
