Marmion extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 7-12. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolfpack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 on Tuesday.

Benjamin Piekarz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alec Gilsinn was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.
On Saint Ignatius College Prep's side, Colin Sims tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Saint Ignatius College Prep's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Molloy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Molloy has posted since back in March. Reid Hites was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Marmion will take on Montini Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Cadets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Leo at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
