Overland's last matchup with Gateway could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Trailblazers lost 17-7 to the Olympians.
Edwardo Colon was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing six bases. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Northfield had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Ravens.
Adler Hickey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jose Fernando La Cruz Romero and Jack Phiel did most of the damage at the plate: La Cruz Romero scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Phiel scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Phiel has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryder Wicks, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Northfield's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Overland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Overland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Northfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
