Chaparral is 8-2 against Horizon since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Firebirds will take on the Huskies at 3:45 p.m. Chaparral is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
While Chaparral's victory against Notre Dame Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Firebirds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Saints on Friday.
Makenzie Leathers looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Stallone, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kaelyn Moffitt was another key player, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and one double.
Chaparral hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Horizon got themselves on the board against Mountain Pointe on Thursday, but Mountain Pointe never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Pride with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Huskies have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Pierson Hozza and MaryRuth Kane were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Hozza tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kane tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Hozza went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Kane went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Horizon let Addison Wilfong and Malena Kiker run wild. Wilfong went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs, while Kiker went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Dalyssia Pina, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Chaparral's record now sits at 16-8. As for Horizon, their record is now 11-8.
Chaparral's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Firebirds have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game.
