There's no place like home for The Lockney Longhorns, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-36 win over Bovina on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Xavier Jimenez was on fire: he rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Jimenez hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for three straight games. Dyllan Thiebaud was another key contributor, rushing for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
When it comes to explaining why Bovina lost, one person who can't be blamed is Angel Lara. Despite the final result, he rushed for 197 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Lara was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Herrera, who threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
Lockney's victory was their third straight at home , which pushed their record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Crosbyton and 2-8 Bovina (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30% over those games). As for Bovina, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Lockney will be playing in front of their home fans against Morton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bovina does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
