Washington is 0-3 against Glenwood since June of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Panthers will welcome the Titans at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Washington 3.1, Glenwood 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Glenwood will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Washington extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Panthers never let Canton get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Canton's batters probably weren't too happy with Gavin Lawrence, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up three walks). Lawrence has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carter Prina was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sam Peters, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Glenwood has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.95 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to Normal University. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Titans were not able to get on the board.
Glenwood also got a good showing from Andrew Wahlbrink, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Washington's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Glenwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
