Softball Game Preview: Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks vs. South Plantation Paladins

The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the South Plantation Paladins at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Archbishop McCarthy easily dispatched LaBelle on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Archbishop McCarthy fell just short of Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) by a score of 4-2 on Saturday.

Sienna Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Archbishop McCarthy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Krista Confesssore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was Confesssore's first of the season. Alexis Nightingale was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for South Plantation's offense. They came up short against King's Academy on Friday, falling 14-0. The Paladins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Archbishop McCarthy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Plantation, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Archbishop McCarthy couldn't quite get it done against South Plantation in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 as they fell 4-1. Can Archbishop McCarthy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
