South Point came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 61-51 win over the Expression Prep Academy Lions. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Pointers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 256th in Ohio, while the Lions are ranked 50th in West Virginia).
Despite the loss, Expression Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rasheed Morrison went 9-for-12 en route to 25 points. Morrison also brought in his first three-point shooting accuracy of the season. Theo Agyemang was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.
South Point now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Expression Prep Academy, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-15.
Looking ahead, South Point will be taking part in a tournament against Minford at 6:00 p.m. on February 24th. Minford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 contests -- so hopefully South Point likes a good challenge. As for Expression Prep Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-62 win against Varsity Opponent on the 19th.
