Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Marathon's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Marathon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Port St. Joe, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Marathon Dolphins blew past the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks 18-8 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Dolphins, who have now won eight contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Jack Chapman, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Suarez, who scored three runs and stole Two bases.

Chapman wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Marathon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. Marathon is a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Marathon has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. Port St. Joe's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marathon will welcome Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th. As for Port St. Joe, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Edgewood Academy at 5:30 p.m.
