Even though the Stargate School Eagles scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, The Academy Wildcats still came out on top. The Academy managed a 64-58 victory over Stargate School. The victory was all the more spectacular given The Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Stargate School is ranked 110th).
It was another big night for Trey Boychuk, who scored 28 points along with seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of The Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Ian Lamar, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
The Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Stargate School, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Academy will face off against Kent Denver at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kent Denver knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully The Academy likes a good challenge. Stargate School will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against DSST: Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. DSST: Cedar will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
