We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Cape Fear Christian Academy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday. Cape Fear Christian Academy never let Fayetteville Christian get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Eagles' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Glenna Mclamb and Finley Phillips made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mclamb tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Phillips pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mclamb has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Mclamb went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Phillips scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kristina Kennedy was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Caylee Braswell, who scored a run while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Cape Fear Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fayetteville Christian only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Wayne Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Heat as they made off with a 12-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Addison Mitchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Wayne Christian got a big performance out of Railee Winter, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Celi Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wayne Christian pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, their record is now 3-0.
Cape Fear Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Wayne Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Cape Fear Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
