This season hasn't been kind to the Independence 76ers, who are still winless after their 11th contest. They were beaten by Walnut Ridge 82-35 on Tuesday. Independence was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-21.
Independence lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Samaj Williams, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Amari Williams, who scored nine points.
Walnut Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lj Foster led the charge by scoring 20 points along with three steals. Dominique Aekins was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on 14 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
Independence bumped their record down to 0-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Walnut Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for Walnut Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on Olentangy Orange at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. Olentangy Orange is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
