The Clifton Mustangs fell victim to the Union City Soaring Eagles''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. Their tough 21-0 loss to the Soaring Eagles might stick with them for a while. Clifton's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Rose, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Rose is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Boyd, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Clifton's loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Delbarton and 11-3 Passaic County Tech (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.9% over those games). As for Union City, the victory was the seventh in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Clifton will head out on the road to face off against Westfield at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Union City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
