Brighton is 9-1 against Covington since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cardinals will host the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. Brighton is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Brighton faced off against Munford on Thursday. The Cardinals came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 7-2.
Laney Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits.
At the plate, Leah Finley was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh McCain, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Finley wasn't the only one making solid contact: Brighton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Covington made easy work of Bartlett on Monday and carried off a 12-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kinslee Hamm made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Hamm was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyv Cromwell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kale Wheeler, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
Brighton pushed their record up to 13-6-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Brighton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Brighton's way against Covington in their previous meeting back in March, as Brighton made off with a 17-7 victory. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
