Harlingen South moved up to 493 from 525 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 32. The Hawks were able to make the jump by besting Hanna 44-0.
Harlingen South made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,996 from 5,136. The improvement was the result of 44-0 victory over the Eagles last week.
Lanny Wilson's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Montemayor threw for 142 and two touchdowns and Nick Garcia had 46 yards receiving. On the ground Jaedon Taylor chipped in 201 yards. Oscar Garza helped Harlingen South's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
Brandon Rodriguez made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hawks bested Hanna. The junior forced one fumble.
Los Fresnos's Jonmichael Rosales and Jaime Mata have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rosales has thrown for 1176 yards this season, while Mata has 26 catches for 423 yards. Harlingen South's Taylor leads the league in rushing yards with 893.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Harlingen takes on Veterans Memorial. As it stands, the Cardinals are in fifth, while the Chargers are in first.
Veterans Memorial led 5A Region IV District 32 in scoring this week after putting up 65 points on Lopez.
